On April 24, 2024, the Information Technology Institute, VNU organized a seminar with the topic “Information System Security in the Age of Digital Transformation”. The Seminar was chaired by Dr. Le Quang Minh, Deputy Director, in charge of the Information System Security Research Department, was held online on the Zoom with the participation of researchers and graduate students of the Information Technology Institute, lecturers from universities and colleagues from many other units.
The seminar started with a report on “Ransomware – Risks and solutions for users”. Ransomware is a type of malicious code that first appeared in 1989. This is a type of malicious code where attacked computers will have data encrypted (a destructive type of attack) and demand ransom. The encryption algorithms used by hackers can be said to be almost incapable of self-decryption, so when encrypted, the victim often has to accept a ransom payment or have to reinstall the system based on the encryption algorithm. Data depends on the level of backup. Ransomware has caused a storm among world users, especially in recent years of covid-19. In 2023 and 2024, many Vietnamese businesses and organizations reported being attacked by Ransomware and suffered quite serious damage such as VNdirect and PVOil.
Speaker Nguyen Minh Duc is an expert, founder and CEO of CyRadar – a famous information security enterprise in Vietnam.
The presented report focuses on the following contents:
- Analysis of Ransomware and why Ransomware has exploded recently
- History of Ransomware
- How Ransomware works
- Do we have a chance to stop Ransomware?
- Track Ransomware groups and the future of Ransomware.
This is a very comprehensive, complete and easy-to-understand presentation on every aspect of Ransomware, especially from the perspective of CYRADAR, a company that has commercial products related to this issue. This useful information is very useful for organizations, businesses and researchers who want to delve deeper into Ransomware.
The second lesson of the seminar is a presentation on new interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research areas and innovation ecosystems in the field of digital technology in the present and future by Dr. Dinh Van Dung, former Deputy Director of the Information Technology Institute, presented. The speaker presented an overall general picture, on that basis mentioned ideas for developing applications to create multi-disciplinary and interdisciplinary products about digital technologies, which are the right choice when Large enterprises and research institutes aim to create industrial products with a high basic research content. The presentation emphasizes digital technologies such as AI, IoT, BigData in developing advanced technology products in fields such as Health, Agriculture, and Industrial Production.
The seminar ended at 4:30 p.m. on the same day. We will provide all detailed information about the presenters’ presentation slides as well as the seminar video at:
