Nexus Laboratory (Information – Knowledge – Systems)

The Nexus Laboratory (Information – Knowledge – Systems) is established on the basis of collaboration between the VNU Institute of Information Technology (VNU-ITI), Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and Intelligent Integration Co., Ltd. (INT2), a member of HPC SYSTEMS Inc. (Japan).

The Laboratory connects scientific research, technology development, system integration and technology transfer in artificial intelligence by combining the research capabilities of VNUe, data science and high-performance computing (HPC).

The theme “Information – Knowledge – Systems” represents a progression from data to information and knowledge, supported by large-scale computing systems. Within this framework, Nexus Lab develops methods and technologies for data analysis, information extraction and knowledge generation for analysis and decision support, together with the infrastructure and systems required to deploy these methods in practice.

VNU-ITI with the practical system-engineering experience of the INT2 and HPC SYSTEMS teams, the Laboratory works across both methodological research and the development and operation of real-world computing systems.

Research, Technology Development and Transfer

Nexus Lab focuses on the following areas:

  • Data analysis and integration: multi-source data integration, analysis and information extraction from textual, multimodal, scientific and business data.
  • Knowledge discovery and decision support: knowledge discovery, question answering, recommender systems, intelligent search, and systems for analysis, forecasting and decision support.
  • Applied artificial intelligence: large language models (LLMs), AI agents, conversational AI, multimodal AI and machine-learning methods for practical applications.
  • HPC/AI infrastructure: design, integration, operation and optimisation of GPU clusters, storage systems, high-speed networks and software platforms for large-scale computing, data processing and AI.
  • AI deployment and inference optimisation: optimisation of attention mechanisms, KV cache, inference pipelines, GPU resource management and serving platforms for large-scale AI models.
  • Applications and technology transfer: development of AI, data-science and high-performance-computing solutions for scientific research, education, industry, governance and digital transformation.

Research and development activities may take the form of research projects, collaborative projects, technology experiments, prototype development, deployment of production infrastructure and research training.

Nexus Lab collaborates with researchers and research groups at universities and research institutions in Viet Nam and abroad. The researchers listed below hold their respective positions at their home institutions and collaborate with Nexus Lab through specific research activities, including student co-supervision, joint research, academic exchange and participation in collaborative research and technology projects.

Through this network, Nexus Lab connects related research activities and facilitates academic exchange, co-supervision of graduate students, sharing of research infrastructure, and the development of collaborative research projects across participating groups.
