In 2024, the staff and students of the Information Technology Institute (ITI) – Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) achieved numerous significant accomplishments across training, scientific research, development cooperation, and technology transfer. Here are the 10 key events and achievements of the year:

Prominent Events:

1) Successful Organization of the 9th International Conference on “Integrated Circuits Design and Verification”

From June 6 to June 8, 2024, the ITI hosted the 9th IEEE International Conference on Integrated Circuits, Design, and Verification (ICDV 2024) in Hanoi. The conference gathered nearly 100 experts and scientists in microchip from universities, research institutes, and enterprises worldwide.

2) Launching UpSkill Training Courses in Semiconductor Chip Design in Da Nang and Hanoi

On March 26, 2024, the ITI, in collaboration with Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), initiated the first UpSkill training courses in semiconductor chip design. These specialized programs were developed to enhance the capabilities of lecturers and engineers, combining three months of theoretical training with three months of practical projects using advanced chip design tools and libraries. The courses are fundamental to building a high-quality teaching and engineering workforce.

3) Inauguration of the International Advanced Research Center on Applied Artificial Intelligence (AIRC)

On January 16, 2024, ITI announced the establishment of AIRC, dedicated to basic and applied research in AI, technology transfer, and commercialization. The center also offers advanced training programs and professional skill development in AI.

4) Operational Launch of the VNU-RMIT Innovation Hub in Hoa Lac Campus

Established in partnership between VNU and RMIT University, the Innovation Hub fosters postgraduate training, high-quality workforce development, and research innovation across various technological fields such as AI, robotics, and renewable energy. The ITI plays a leading role in its operation.

5) Announcement of the Development Plan for ITI up to 2030 with Vision to 2045

On December 3, 2024, VNU’s Director officially approved ITI’s development roadmap. The institute focuses on five research pillars, including applied AI, semiconductor chip design, information system security, robotics, and computational technologies.

Key Achievements:

1) Maintained a 5-star rating as a research-oriented innovation university and continued leading VNU in high international publications indexed in WoS/Scopus.

In 2024, the Information Technology Institute (ITI) maintained its 5-star rating as a research-oriented innovation university for the second consecutive year. The institute achieved a high publication rate in WoS/Scopus journals, with >2.93 papers per researcher.

SISLAB, a leading group in digital circuit design, was recognized as a VNU-level strong research group, with extensive global collaborations.

ITI successfully completed several significant research projects, contributing to advancements in science and technology.

2) Fostering an active research environment through organizing numerous national and international conferences, scientific events, and welcoming international experts and students for research exchange and technology transfer.

The Information Technology Institute has successfully established a positive research environment by organizing various national and international conferences, scientific events, and hosting delegations of international experts and students for research and technology transfer. In 2024, the Institute achieved the following:

  • Organized two high-level international conferences on Information and Communication Technology and Semiconductor Design.
  • Held 12 monthly national scientific workshops, fostering an interactive platform for researchers, scientists, and Ph.D. candidates to exchange expertise and promote technology transfer.
  • Hosted over 20 international scientists and research scholars for collaborative research projects at the Institute.

3) Awarding Doctoral Degrees to Successful Candidates

Two candidates successfully defended their dissertations and received doctoral degrees in 2024.

4) Expanding Short-term Training Programs for Government and Enterprises

ITI continued its short-term training programs in collaboration with various governmental and business entities to advance technological adoption and development.

5) Rich domestic and international collaboration activities, enhancing scientific and technological resources for the institution.

The Information Technology Institute has hosted numerous international experts and scientists for scientific research and teaching. It has also sent many staff members abroad to engage in scientific research, conferences, and workshops. In 2024, to strengthen scientific and technological capacity and enhance international engagement, the Institute hosted experts, including Professor Koichiro Ishibashi, who has continuously worked at the Institute. Over 10 international experts from France, Brazil, Japan, Taiwan, Spain, the UK, Ireland, and other countries visited the Institute. Additionally, the Institute sent many staff members abroad to universities and research organizations in Italy, the UK, France, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
