In order to promote research and development of microprocessors and systems on chips using the RISC-V open instruction set architecture in Vietnam, the Institute of Information Technology – Hanoi National University in collaboration with the Association of RISC-V Japan successfully organized the RISC-V Vietnam 2022 Conference on January 15, 2022. This is an opportunity for researchers at universities, research institutes and technology experts of high-tech companies in Vietnam to exchange, exchange and share experiences with development researchers. development in the world on the open instruction set architecture RISC-V, the achievements achieved and application prospects in the fields of Internet of Things (IoT), telecommunications, home electronics, automotive industry, smart city, cloud computing, artificial intelligence… as well as the RISC-V ecosystem development strategy in Vietnam.
The RISC-V open instruction set architecture together with open source projects to implement compilers and hardware and software systems for this architecture have attracted the attention of researchers and developers. industry recently. The open instruction set architecture RISC-V (5th generation RISC architecture) is built on the many years of experience in designing RISC microprocessor systems of the University of Berkeley, USA. Unlike the closed instruction set architectures of Intel and ARM, the open instruction set architecture allows users to edit according to the application problem and does not have to pay royalties. The scientific community can contribute to and extend this instruction set architecture with new advances in computer science and engineering. Extensions of this architecture are operated by the RISC-V Foundation. Many companies have announced to use processors with RISC-V open instruction set architecture in their products such as Renesas, Samsung, Nvidia etc.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Xuan Tu presented the team’s research results on
system-on-chip platform for Internet of Things applications based on the RISC-V microprocessor.
The RISC-V Vietnam 2022 conference includes 12 presentations by research groups from research institutes and businesses in Vietnam, India and Japan. The authors covered various aspects of the RISC-V ecosystem including hardware and software platforms; hardware-level security and information security issues for RISC-V microprocessors; implements systems on a chip using the RISC-V microprocessor chip and designs acceleration blocks for RISC-V systems.
Ms. Calista Redmond on behalf of the International RISC-V Association presented on the importance of using RISC-V for Vietnam in the future. The presentation overviewed the development of systems using the RISC-V open instruction set architecture in recent years and development trends in the following years. This is an opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises and researchers to master the technology of designing microcontrollers using the RISC-V open instruction set architecture and developing new technologies based on them such as the Internet of Things. and artificial intelligence.

the importance of using RISC-V for Vietnam in the future.
The Institute of Information Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi contributed two presentations on the system-on-chip platform using low-power RISC-V microcontrollers for Internet of Things applications and the design of intelligent systems. Compact artificial intelligence for embedded devices on the RISC-V platform. The application of microprocessors using the RISC-V open instruction set architecture for information security, hardware security and smart application development is a research direction of interest at the Institute of Information Technology. .
In addition, Vietnamese researchers at the Military Technical Academy, University of Natural Sciences, VNU-HCM and Tokyo University of Electronics and Communication (Japan) presented their research projects. about hardware implementations for the RISC-V microprocessor system and techniques to protect the RISC-V microprocessor against physical attacks such as adjacency and buffering attacks. This has shown that the RISC-V platform is attracting the attention of research institutions in Vietnam. These studies are also beginning to reap certain results.
Presentation by technology experts from SH Consulting Group.
The highlight at the RISC-V Vietnam Conference 2022 was the presentation on the plan to develop RISC-V microcontrollers for various applications by Renesas, Japan, and the presentation on the strategy for developing systems. using the open instruction set architecture RISC-V at the Madras Institute of Technology, India. Obviously, RISC-V will be a widely used architecture in the coming years for applications such as Internet of Things, automotive industry, artificial intelligence, 5G technology and many other fields.
The RISC-V Vietnam 2022 conference ended successfully with a presentation on the development situation and future potential of RISC-V systems by Mr. Shumpei Kawasaki, RISC-V Association of Japan.
