On August 22, 2023, the Information Technology Institute, Vietnam National University, Hanoi welcomed the delegation of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), led by Prof. Hong Lo – Dean of Enginnering and Director of GREAT Smart Cities Institute, HKUST. Representing for Vietnam National University, the delegation included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Tuan Anh – Vice-director of Cooperation and Development Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Tu – Director of The Information Technology Institute, Dr. Ho Sy Loi – Deputy Head of the Office of Vietnam National University, and other representatives attended.
Recently, VNU has had a number of staff working at HKUST through research collaboration, internships, and some talented undergraduate students in fields of the chemistry and biology who are pursuing their master’s studies at this university. At the meeting, VNU and HKUST exchanged information and discussed the prospects of cooperation in the field of Information Technology and Communication towards smart cities. Accordingly, Prof. Hong Lo hopes that VNU and HKUST will collaborate in exchanging young faculty members in the fields of high – tech and life sciences. Additionally,the both sides will exchange students, especially through joint research and training programs for 1- semester. Prof. Hong Lo also shared more information about the development of smart cities in both public and private sectors in Vietnam. With a mission of education along with research, GREAT Smart Cities Institute at HKUST has been, and continues to be, engaged in integrating methods through some areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) into sustainable and environmentally-friendly development.
Vietnam National University is ready to receive and create favorable conditions for HKUST students to study and conduct research in Vietnam. With the support of the Sunwah Foundation, VNU and HKUST will develop a short-term training programs for VNU’s young faculty members on entrepreneurship skills.
At the end of the working session, VNU and HKUST agreed to strengthen cooperation, coordination, and mutual support to promote development in AI, smart cities, and IoT, with the common goal of the desire to contribute to technological progress and social development.
HKUST is one of the nine largest universities in Hong Kong.
